New Year - New Beginnings
If you’re like me, you wanted to block out everything related to your career so you could enjoy family and friends over the holiday break. We sometimes need to remind ourselves that those connections are the most important aspect of our lives. Congratulations if you were successful! I really hope you enjoyed precious moments.
What if we used the power of collective dreaming to start a new reality with family partnerships?
If you missed my December Webinar “Problem Parents: Our Untapped Asset” here’s a link to the recording. Feel free to share it with colleagues. The more perspectives we can gather, the more we all benefit! And – ultimately – the more youth with disabilities, their families, and society as a whole will benefit!
Can you imagine the possibilities of having transition teams from different regions/ different states all learning together? How powerful to share what we discover about factors in our current practices that limit partnership possibilities! After all, we can’t change what we can’t see!
Can you imagine our monthly calls when teams will share new insights, like…
awareness of their own attitudes and assumptions that have limited their outreach to families.
new perspectives on their “problem parents” gained from reaching out and listening with compassion.
how their historic procedures prohibit family trust.
simple ways they could inspire leadership of team members, families, and youth.
new approaches to IEP meeting procedures to build partnerships.
add-on strategies to current transition activities (transition fairs, career night, transition assessments) that expand partnerships.
surprising results from trying new methods.
and many more … it’s unpredictable!
What breakthrough would your transition team like to have?
Here’s our timeline for our learning and action!
