Visionary Project Highlights
FCPS Maryland - Lunch & Learn
In their commitment to build strong partnerships with families, Frederick County Public Schools contracted with Dr. Amy Pleet-Odle to offer this three-part virtual workshop sponsored by FCPS and Frederick County Infants & Toddlers Family Support Services.
Each part provided information, tools, and models of questions families can ask to build partnerships with their child’s education team through conversation. Each session was held during the traditional lunch hour, but Dr. Amy Pleet-Odle also included replay opportunities for those who needed more flexible viewing options.
While these webinars were created during a time of virtual and hybrid learning, many of the topics addressed extend to traditional, in-person educational settings. It is also worth noting that many children, both with and without special needs, continue to engage in virtual learning, underscoring the continued importance of these discussions in fostering inclusive and adaptable educational opportunities.
Topics discussed included:
Special Education Services in a Remote & Hybrid World
Accommodations & Modifications
Progress Monitoring
Questions addressed included:
What is the purpose of this IEP for my child?
What is the least restrictive environment for my child?
Will my child need accommodations?
Do the IEP goals target my child's "driving needs"?
If my child is not making progress, what should we do?
And more….

Could your School Community benefit from a collaboration engagement with Dr. Amy Pleet-Odle?
*These webinars are not legal advice. There are countless variables in provision of special education, especially online. Strategies must be appropriately selected for each situation, and implementation requires support and feedback. The intention of these webinars is to share research findings and provide examples useful for families.
